A Baby Raccoon.

For Otto's party, I knew Mol needed to be a raccoon. I also knew she would definitely not leave a hat/ears/facepaint on. She's not a hat wearer at the best of times.

I've been in love with the Wild Things dresses for quite awhile now.

Had I been organised/flush enough, I would have purchased one of those. I'm not big on copying other crafters work, I promise.

I decided to have a go at making something similar.

I used a slightly different shaped dress, a reversible a-line dress. I knew I wanted it to be lined, for a bit of extra shape, so a reversible made sense. I didn't add the pockets, and I made my raccoon face quite a bit bigger. I used dome snaps on the straps, making it super easy to get on and off.

I made some little stripey leggings to be worn with it. For extra Raccoony-ness.

I had a bit of fun making this, and it did look cute on Mollie, but my version is no where near as gorgeous as the originals. Isn't that always the way? It's a good lesson, that I should have saved up/been organised and gone to the source : ) 
I dearly hope to purchase some of these amazing overalls for Mol before next Winter.

My weeks work!

Over the past fortnight, I've been working on a big custom order of accessories. I can't show it to you juuuust yet - not until all pieces have been received by the people who are getting them.

It was so much fun to do something a little different, but it was also nice to be back at my sewing machine, creating little wearables again.

I whipped up five of these little sets this week; Two custom orders, two gifts for little friends' birthdays and one for Mollie.
I especially love the little (charcoal) merino leggings, I do so wish I could make some in my size! So snuggly. I hope their new owners will agree.

I also made this wee top, to match this pair of leggings that my Mum gave Mol after a recent trip to Cotton On Kids. The main fabric came in a parcel of fabric from the lovely Nin. It has a slightly brushed feel on the back, making it nice and warm.

These outfits are so much fun to make - and pretty much the perfect small girl get-up. The pieces work well together, but also as separates. And you can easily chuck a merino underneath, or a cardi on top, and they go through the cooler seasons, too. I have a feeling I'll be making many more in the coming weeks!

Foxy birthday suit!

Our little friend, who celebrated her 1st birthday this past weekend, has a Mama that is fond of foxes. She's a big fan.
So, when Deb kindly sent me a stunning piece of fabric covered in foxes, I knew that I would end up making something for Maggie (or, rather, for her Mum Katie to put her in!).
While I was planning out the wee birthday suit (not that kind of birthday suit... rather a birthday outfit..), I realised that actually Mollie might just need one, too.
Mollie and Maggie live in different towns - so it's not so nerdy, right? Not too matchy-matchy? I must confess I do secretly want to see them both together in their foxy get-ups though...

I thought of making a dress, but these crawling little ladies are not so fussed on dresses - they get in the way. So I settled on peasant style smocks and handy dandy, super comfy, leggings. Lovely. The leggings are a touch big so hoping the knee patches might actually be on the knee in a month or so. Heh.

I'm quite sure that Katie and Maggie liked the outfit, and even Mollie gave it the a-okay. Win!

Dressed to, erm, thrift.

I have a terrible habit at the moment (probably more than one, but for the purpose of this blogpost, let's just say it's one..), and that habit is buying dresses that noone in my house fits.

The number of dresses I have bought recently that are too small for me, and too big for Mollie, is quite ridiculous. I mean, sure, Mollie with grow into hers but there is no guarantee she will let me dictate what she wears at three, four five.. and I miiiight lose weight and fit into mine, but that would involve a little effort on my part, and who has the energy for that?!
At this rate I could almost open some sort of online vintage store, but then again, if I had that much energy I might fit the dresses. Haha. Such a catch 22.
In the meantime, they sure are pretty to hang in the closet and daydream about wearing..

Wardrobe Wednesday.

Thought I would make the most of the finest weather we've had in awhile, and do a WW post! Huzzah!
I had a million errands to run in town this morning, so I thought it fitting that I might pull out all the stops, and wear a dress for a change. Slowly getting braver!
This is a dress I bought not long after Mollie was born. I bought it, and about a dozen others, on one of those magical thrifting days where the whole rail seems to be filled with things your size (probably more common if you are a smaller size!) and your era of choice. I didn't really fit any of them that day, with my 2 week old darling asleep in her carseat, but I'm discovering now which will be kept and which will be sold/gifted on. I tried to choose ones with buttons predominately, for obvous reasons - so hard to find fab dresses with boob access!

Miss Mollie donned a frock also, as she seems to more and more often. Hers was slightly more dashing than mine, she doesn't need to work hr way up to being brave! Ha ha.

Wardrobe day.

I decided today was the day to brave a vintage dress.
I've been so disheartened with my post-partum frump that I've not really dared to frock it up. The one time I did wear a nana-style dress was the day someone stopped me in the supermarket and said 'Are you pregnant again? Oh wow! You are!'. Um, no. Dress back into the 'not yet pile'...

But today I feel a little closer to normal (a long way to go..) and, well, I'm so tired of skirt and tops and everything in black. There's not enough colour in my life!

So yes, I may or may not still look 5 months pregnant, but I feel a lot cheerier. And that is the most important thing, afterall.

Wardrobe Wednesday!

A wee girl's Wardrobe Weds today. It would appear she is the only one I can get a decent photo of in this cold, dull light. Where has the sun gone? Doesn't the weather know we have to get the car serviced tomorrow and we'll need to walk everywhere? It had best buck up its ideas before then!

Mols is all wrapped up toasty, for a trip to the op shop and post office. She is wearing:

Mollie's Wardrobe: Part 2

A lot of these beauties were gifted to Mollie by lovely friends like Amy and Kristen. A few others were worn by my sister and I when we were littlies.
I still have one more batch to photograph (!) when the weather/light is behaving itself. But right now I'm going to go put another pair of socks on and restart the c.d... it's -3 degrees, Aesop is home sick, Mollie is all snuffly and I'm making the most of a home day, soup on the stove, Adele blasting and plenty of sitting around going on!
